Compound Butter Boxes Are The New Cookie Boxes

Cookie boxes? SO last year. Compound butter boxes are where it’s at. Whip up a few flavors, pack ’em up, pair them with a beautiful loaf of sourdough or crackers, and you’ve got a pretty spectacular homemade gift anyone would love. Here are a few of our favorite recipes we’d stuff in our box this year.

Speculoos Cookie Compound Butter

A sweet butter with cozy and warm spices and a crunchy cookie texture perfect for morning toast or pancakes.

Makes 8 servings

Ingredients  

  • 4 speculoos cookies, such as Biscoff
  • 1/2 cup Vital Farms Unsalted Butter, room temperature
  • pinch salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions 

  • Add the cookies to a zip-top bag, seal, and crush with a rolling pin or heavy pan until they are in coarse crumbs.
  • Add the butter to a small bowl along with the crushed cookies, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Stir to combine then transfer to a small mason jar or container for gifting.

Fried Sage Compound Butter

Serve this spread up on roasted turkey or chicken or toasty crostini with a dollop of cranberry preserves for a delightful seasonal snack.

Makes 8 servings

Ingredients  

  • 15 large fresh sage leaves
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup Vital Farms Unsalted Butter, room temperature
  • pinch salt

Instructions 

  • Heat a small skillet over medium heat then add the olive oil. Add in the sage leaves and allow them to fry until crisp, about 30 seconds or so. Transfer them to a paper towel to cool slightly.
  • Add the butter to a small bowl along with the salt. Crumble the cooled sage leaves into the butter and stir everything to combine. Transfer to a small mason jar or container for gifting.

Herby Citrus Compound Butter

Use this as a dip for fresh crudité, slathered on a toasty piece of sourdough or grilled meat.

Makes 8 servings

Ingredients  

  • 1/2 cup Vital Farms Unsalted Butter, room temperature
  • pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, roughly chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, roughly chopped
  • zest of 1 orange

Instructions 

  • In a small bowl, combine the butter, salt, herbs and orange zest.
  • Stir to combine then transfer to a small mason jar or container for gifting.

Roasted Garlic Compound Butter

This flavorful butter is a game-changing addition to grilled cheeses, steak night or even just the bread basket on the holiday table.

Makes 8 servings

Ingredients  

  • 1/2 cup Vital Farms Unsalted Butter room temperature
  • pinch salt
  • 1 head garlic

Instructions 

  • Preheat the oven to 400° F. Slice the top off a head of garlic so the cloves are exposed. Wrap up in foil and place on a small baking sheet. Roast for about 40-50 minutes, until garlic is completely tender and caramelized. Allow to cool slightly.
  • Add the butter to a small bowl along with the salt. Squeeze the head of garlic into the butter.
  • Stir to combine then transfer to a small mason jar or container for gifting.
